چکیده

Template matching is a well-proven approach in the area of articulated object tracking. Matching accuracy and computation time of template matching are essential and yet often conflicting goals. In this paper, we present a novel, adaptive template matching approach based on the silhouette area of the articulated object. With our approach, the ratio between accuracy and speed simply is a modifiable parameter, and, even at high accuracy, it is still faster than a state-of-theart approach. We approximate the silhouette area by a small set of axisaligned rectangles. Utilizing the integral image, we can thus compare a silhouette with an input image at an arbitrary position independently of the resolution of the input image. In addition, our rectangle covering yields a very memory efficient representation of templates. Furthermore, we present a new method to build a template hierarchy optimized for our rectangular representation of template silhouettes. With the template hierarchy, the complexity of our matching method for n templates is O(logn) and independent of the input resolution. For example, a set of 3000 templates can be matched in 2.3 ms. Overall, our novel methods are an important contribution to a complete system for tracking articulated objects.

Adaptive search area for fast motion estimation

In this paper a new method for determining the search area for motion estimation algorithm based on block matching is suggested. In the proposed method the search area is adaptively found for each block of a frame. This search area is similar to that of the full search (FS) algorithm but smaller for most blocks of a frame. Therefore, the proposed algorithm is analogous to FS in terms of reg...

A New RSTB Invariant Image Template Matching Based on Log-Spectrum and Modified ICA

Template matching is a widely used technique in many of image processing and machine vision applications. In this paper we propose a new as well as a fast and reliable template matching algorithm which is invariant to Rotation, Scale, Translation and Brightness (RSTB) changes. For this purpose, we adopt the idea of ring projection transform (RPT) of image. In the proposed algorithm, two novel s...

An Approach to Vision-Based Person Detection in Robotic Applications

We present an approach to vision-based person detection in robotic applications that integrates top down template matching with bottom up classifiers. We detect components of the human silhouette, such as torso and legs; this approach provides greater invariance than monolithic methods to the wide variety of poses a person can be in. We detect borders on each image, then apply a distance transf...
